THE Oratory School golf team has reached the area finals in the Independent Schools Golf Association Singles competition for the first time by beating St Edward’s, Oxford.

In the event, each school selects three players and the lowest combined gross score progresses.

The team of Chris Humphreys, Tom Shaw and Max Teixeira (pictured right with head of golf, Jeff Burt) prevailed convincingly at Caversham Heath and will now go onto next month’s finals.

The school had also reached the last four in the regional stages of the HMC Foursomes competition, but were beaten by Radley College due to a technicality on the 14th green.

The Oratory were leading 2-1 before the controversial concession.

That game was played on the Championship course at Frilford Heath, with golf captain Ian Aitken, Humphreys, Teixeira, Shaw, Cameron McLean and Josh Bisdee representing the side.
