NEW Calcot Park ladies’ captain Sonia Selwood completed the customary drive-in recently.

Selwood was escorted to the first tee by head professional, Gareth Johnston, who teed up her ball for her and, along with a good turnout of members, saw her drive the ball just over 150 yards.

Along with club captain, David Wyeth, Selwood (pictured) will be raising charitable funds for the Children’s Lion Ward, at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and also for Matthew Pike, the Tilehurst schoolboy who tragically died of Leukaemia late last year.

She has also instigated a Birdie Box, whereby any member, or guest, who makes a birdie on any hole pays £1 into the pot and, if their name is drawn at the end of month, they get to share the pot 50/50 with the charities.

THERE were close finishes in all three divisions of the latest Weekend Stableford at Caversham Heath.

In Division One, the first four players all finished with the same number of points with the first three all scoring identical tallies on the front and back nine.

Gareth Goodall (5hcp) claimed the top spot on countback from Andrew Parker (10hcp), David Wise (8hcp) and Mike Capaldi (10hcp), all with 38 points.

The top three all had 20 points on the front and 18 points on the back nine. Apart from a bogey on the 16th hole, Goodall also recorded five pars and a birdie in his closing holes.

Parker had five bogeys on the back nine while Wise double bogeyed the last. Capaldi had the best front nine with 22 points, but could only muster 16 points on the way home.

The Division Two winner was Christopher Korkoran (13hcp) with 43 points. Runner-up was Clive Adamson (13hcp) with 41 points and third was Barry Reynolds (13hcp) with 40 points.

In Division Three, Mark Russell (25hcp) emerged triumphant with 35 points. Gordon Berry (22hcp) was second with 34 points and Jim McGiveron (21hcp) was third with 33 points.

Twos were recorded by Steven Hughes and Scott Monro (both on the 8th hole) and by Clive Adamson, David Brittain, Matt Gibson, Gareth Goodall, David Holloway, Callum Peart and Barry Reynolds (all on the 13th hole).

JACK Russell (11hcp) took the Division One honours in the Midweek Stableford with 37 points. Runner-up was Colin Stoute (14hcp) with 35 points and third was Mervyn Jones (16hcp) with 31 points.

The Division Two champion was Kjersti Cannon (23hcp) with 31 points. Second was Caroline Dover (28hcp), on countback from Peter Cannon (24hcp), both with 30 points. However, a nil return on the last proved costly for Cannon.
