NEW Calcot Park club captain, David Wyeth, ‘drove-in’ in tradition on Sunday, dressed in the style of traditional golfers in plus fours, a waistcoat, and flat cap.

Wyeth even had an ancient ‘hickory-shafted’ driver with which he showed it is still possible to hit a golf ball 250 yards – albeit, not that straight.

The new captain – a three handicapper – has been a member at Calcot Park since he was a junior in 1986.

His first duty as captain, was to present the ladies’ captain, Sonia Selwood, with her captain’s jacket – she will have her drive-in on Sunday, January 17.

Both captains will be supporting the Lady Taverners, a charity which enables young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with disabilities to enjoy sport.

The pair’s local charity will be the Lion Children’s Ward at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, chosen in memory of Tilehurst youngster and close family friend, Matthew Pike, who sadly died last October.
