CAVERSHAM Heath has been chosen as a venue for the 2016 PGA EuroPro Tour.

The main EuroPro Tour competition will take place from Monday, August 8 to Friday, August 12.

On Tuesday, August 9, there will also be a Pro-Am event, with a range of sponsorship packages available.

The EuroPro Qualifying School will take place between Tuesday, March 29 and Thursday March 31.

The club has already hosted Jamega Tour and Trilby Tour events.

However, unlike those events, the PGA EuroPro Tour is officially affiliated by the European Tour and the PGA and will be broadcast on Sky Sports.

Caversham heath general manager, Matt Ackerman, said: “To attract a PGA EuroPro Tour event to Caversham Heath is reward and recognition of the quality of the course and hard work that all the team have put in.

“Staging the PGA EuroPro Tour not only gives Caversham Heath excellent exposure to a global audience, but it raises the profile of the club while being associated with the governing bodies of European Golf.

“The Operations Director from the EuroPro tour was so impressed with Caversham Heath that they also asked us to host a Q-school event as well as the main event, which we were delighted to do.

“We have no doubt it will provide us with an event to be hugely excited and proud of.”

Daniel Godding, PGA EuroPro Tour Director of Operations said: “I absolutely love the golf course and feel it is a real test for our players.

“Not only it is long, but it is excellently designed and will be a challenge to the very best of Europe’s top young professional golfers.”

  • CAVERSHAM Heath player Tony Flood achieved his first hole-in-one last week.

Playing with his regular golfing partner, Nick Sarson, Flood (22hcp) achieved his ace on the 13th hole at Caversham Heath, using a five iron.

Second were Roger Stroomer (14) and Jose Fernandez Moure (10hcp) with 41 points and third were Tony Gonzalez (9hcp) and Steve Streak (11hcp) with 39 points.

  • THE Scratch League returned to Caversham Heath in 2015 and ended with promotion.

Thanks to some great work by Darren Bonney, the club have been accepted into the Inter County League which consists of four divisions covering Bucks, Berks and Oxfordshire with teams from Woburn,

The Buckinghamshire, Stoke Park and Castle Royal all competing.

Caversham were entered into the bottom Division Four alongside Maidenhead, Temple and Harleyford. The format is seven singles, with the first three players going out in handicap order.

The club claimed comfortable victories over Harleyford (6-1), Maidenhead (5½-1½) and Harleryford (5½ -1½) to go top of the table at the half way point.

A 6-1 defeat at Temple followed then a 5-2 loss at Maidenhead, with wins from Richard Craven (4&3) and Dave Williams (5&4).

With Harleyford pulling out of the league mixed with other results elsewhere, Caversham won 5½ -½ at home against Temple but had to settle for a second-placed finish.

However, due to an influx of new clubs, the league decided to promote the top three teams including Caversham.

Next year’s scratch team will be led by Gareth Goodall. They will play in Division Three alongside Maidenhead, Temple, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross and Studley Wood.
