ANDY Holmes and Jack Turrill tied for first place in the Abbott Hill competition at Caversham Heath.

Holmes (24hcp) shot 38+30=68 while and Turrill (15hcp) recorded 38+30=68.

In joint third place were James Millard (5hcp) with 35+32=67 and Jim McGiveron (22hcp) with 37+30=67.

Twos were recorded by Clive Adamson, Richard Craven, Alex Easter, Nick Ford, Holmes, Mervyn Jones, Kenny Price, Colin Stoute and Dave Wilkins on the 8th hole; by Price and Wilkins on the 13th; and by Mike Capaldi, John Downey, Matt Gibson and Stoute on the 17th.

Jane Weller (24hcp) won the Ladies Yellow Tee Fun competition with 33 points.

Runner-up was Rachel Downey (17hcp) with 30 points and third was Caroline Dover (27hcp) with 29 points.

The Ladies stableford competition was won by Dover (27hcp) with 35 points.

Second was Lynne Rumbold (17hcp) with 31 points and third was Daphne Barker (34hcp) with 30 points.

A field of 34 took part in the Rod Starling Trophy Stableford – a competition that limits players to just three clubs and a putter.

Keith Taylor (25hcp) was the overall winner, on count-back from the ever consistent Simon Dicketts (21hcp), both with 33 points, thanks to 20 points on the back nine. Robin McEvoy (19hcp) claimed third with 32 points.

The Mixed team cruised to a 5½-2½ victory over Studley Wood on Sunday.

There were particularly impressive wins for Anne Smith and James Murphy, and Jim McGiveron and Fiona Ives, both pairs winning 7&6. Also representing the club were Weller and Danny Dover, Joyce Collins and David Wise, Julie Daniels and Alan Carter, Caroline Dover and Simon Taylor, Sheila Evans and Carl Rapley and Elizabeth Henderson and Adamson.

Caversham's Ladies Silver League team beat Hennerton 6-0 at Reading Golf Club with Julie Daniels and Sarah Lau winning 7&6, Wendy Bushell and Sarla Read triumphing 6&5 and Rumbold and Weller prevailing 5&4.

On Monday, the Ladies lost 2½-½ against Goring & Streatley at Winter Hill. Read and Lau lost on the 18th, Daniels and Weller were beaten 2&1, but Rumbold and Kjersti Cannon avoided the whitewash, coming back from three down with three to play to halve the game.

Caversham sit third in the

Division Two table.

Rumbold, Susie Matheson and Kathy North followed last year’s victory in the Berkshire County Ladies Golf Association Team Competition played at Mapledurham by finishing as runners-up.

The format was a stableford competition with a team of three, each member from a different handicap division + - 20, 21-28 and 26-36, with the best two scores counting.

However, Caversham Heath retained the title as Rachel Downey, Debbie Harris and Angie Adamson scored 89 points to win the competition.
