The recent woes in the league can be forgotten as 31,000 Royals descend on Wembley, hoping to witness history in the making.

Can Reading do it? Can they shock the most in-form team in England and book their place in the final? Why not?

The Gunners have won 15 out of their last 17 games in all competitions and are back to their slick best, but the pressure as heavy favourites can do funny things.

Arsenal were taken to penalties by a Championship club in Wigan in the semi final last season, eventually overcoming a brave Latics rearguard after a 1-1 draw.

It took extra-time for struggling Hull City to be dispatched 3-2 in the final. The two victories at Wembley were far from convincing for Arsene Wenger’s side and Reading will be boosted by memories of the struggles the Gunners faced in those games.

Steve Clarke will have his side well prepared, fighting for their lives and throwing their bodies on the line.

It won’t be pretty and Reading will no doubt come under heavy pressure throughout, but in Adam Federici the Royals have a goalkeeper capable of producing a man-of-the-match display.

At the other end, who remembers Birmingham City’s winner against Arsenal in the 2011 Carling Cup final? A defensive mistake saw Obafemi Martins pounce to seal an historic 2-1 victory for the Blues.

Reading’s record against Arsenal is well documented but one scrappy effort, deflected goal or well worked set-piece could send the travelling Royals faithful into raptures.

What a story that would be. Just four months after Nigel Adkins was sacked following a 6-1 defeat at Birmingham City, Reading could find themselves the talk of the nation as they book their return to Wembley.

Fans should appreciate and enjoy the day, lap up the atmosphere and make the most of a once-in-a-lifetime moment.

This is a completely different matter to the play-off final defeat against Swansea in 2011.

There is no pressure on Reading this time, everyone expects Arsenal to coast to victory and Clarke’s side can play with freedom.

If Royals fans can pull off a giant-killing, it will be talked about for years to come.

It’ll be a real ‘I was there’ moment for any Reading fan lucky enough to be at Wembley.

Whether you’re watching at home, in the pub, at Wembley or elsewhere, enjoy it!

C’mon URzzzz!
