The win moved Nigel Adkins’ side to within five points of the play-offs, with favourable home games against Rotherham and Charlton to come next week.

Before that though, Royals face a testing trip to Ewood Park to face a Blackburn side that are unbeaten in four games and on the verge of the play-off places.

Taylor insists that Saturday’s victory will help the side in Lancashire, and believes a result could firmly put an end to the recent bad form, leaving Reading looking up the table instead of down it.

“It’s good to get the win at home,” he said. “It’s a nice confidence boost ahead of Blackburn.

“It’s always good to bounce back with a win after a lack of form.

“We’ve got a few games coming up now so hopefully we can go on a run now and if we do we’ll be back in the mix.

“We’ll work hard in the week as we know what Blackburn are about as a team.”

He continued: “We try and go into every game with a positive attitude but it’ll help knowing that we got three points in the last game.

“In this league a lot of teams can beat each other, you never know what can happen with a few wins.

“If we put a string of results together and go on a run then you’re going to move up the table.”

Taylor put in an impressive performance from the bench on Saturday after replacing Simon Cox in the 62nd minute.

The 22-year-old was heavily involved in the second goal as his presence and slight touch on the ball forced Peter Clarke to head the ball beyond Joe Lewis in the Seasiders goal.

Taylor ran off claiming the goal, but it was credited as an own goal following replays.

It would’ve been the midfielder’s fourth goal this season, after notching against Ipswich, Scunthorpe and Wolves.

“It flicked off the top of my hard and I’ll claim it as much as I can,” he laughed. “If it eventually goes down as mine then great but if we not then we won 3-0 and that was the main objective from today.

“Everyone wants to contribute goals and I’ve scored a couple already this season but I want to build on that and continue scoring when I can.”
