It was a moment the 22-year-old had clearly imagined over and over again in his mind since joining the Royals at the age of eight.

And on Saturday it became reality as he capitalised on a defensive mishap after a long ball from Chris Gunter to poke the ball past the advancing Dean Gerkin and put Reading ahead.

The goal was enough to give the Royals their first league win of the season, which would’ve made it even sweeter for Taylor in front of his family who were watching from the stands.

The Ascot-born youngster, an academy product who has made just two league starts for the Royals, admits it’s something he’s been waiting for since he was little.

“It’s a dream come true,” he beamed. “I’ve wanted to do that since I was a little boy. I’ve grew up watching players score goals here at the Madejski so to finally score here is fantastic.

“It’s been a lot of hard work from myself, my family and everyone thats coached me coming up through the ranks and it’s a nice moment.

“The goal is a blur to me at the moment but I’ll be sure to watch it back a few times.

“It means a lot to everyone. To score at home in front of the crowd who were fantastic today. It is a great feeling and to have the fans getting behind you, it really does give you a boost.”

A clearly delighted Taylor ran off kissing the Royals badge on his chest but the level-headed youngster is already looking to build on his success and grab more match-winning goals this season.

“I’ve always said I’d kiss the badge if I scored so if I didn’t do it I’d have probably got some stick,” he added. “But it’s a club that means so much to me and that’s why I had to do it.

“It’s not something I want to rest on though, I want more of that and if I keep working hard then I don’t see why it’s not possible.

“One goal doesn’t make a player, I want to work hard and score more.”
