ADAM Le Fondre has broken his silence to confirm his Reading FC career could be over.

Royals’ top goalscorer has started only nine games under Nigel Adkins this season and admits he is open to a move in the January transfer window.

Le Fondre netted 12 times in the Premier League last season and was named the club’s Chronicle-sponsored Player of the Year.

He has also bagged seven goals this term despite limited pitch-time.

But he has dropped below Pavel Pogrebnyak, Billy Sharp and Hal Robson-Kanu in the pecking order and 27-year-old accepts he may have to leave the Madejski Stadium in order to get regular games.

Le Fondre gave his first interview for several months after coming off the bench in yesterday’s 1-1 home draw with Nottingham Forest which ended Royals’ three-match losing streak.

He admitted: “Obviously I want to play games but I haven’t been doing that. I haven’t played for two months now

“I’m leading the goalscoring charts but not getting sufficient time on the pitch. It’s something I need to look at.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, I can’t say whether I’m going to stay or go.”

The majority of Reading supporters believe Le Fondre has not been given a fair crack of the whip by Adkins.

When asked whether he would consider a move, Le Fondre replied: “Of course I would. I’m a footballer, I want to play games, it’s what I’m paid to do.

“The lads have done reasonably well since I’ve been out of the team but I’m not paid to sit around watching games.

“I’m no different to any player. I want to play games, get minutes on the pitch and I want to score goals, that’s what I’m about.”

Le Fondre has been linked with a reunion with former boss Brian McDermott at Leeds United, while Forest manager Billy Davies has also been linked with the unsettled marksman.

McDermott brought Le Fondre to Reading from Rotherham United for around £300,000 in 2011.

However, Royals are reluctant to loan or sell their players to their chief promotion rivals.

Adkins may also wants to keep Le Fondre until Southampton agree to extend Billy Sharp’s loan.

Sharp’s loan expired yesterday, but the 27-year-old striker does not want to return to St Mary’s where he has no future under boss Mauricio Pochettino and is forced to train with the Academy.

However, Le Fondre stressed: “This hasn’t just happened since Billy has been here. Hal (Robson-Kanu) has played up front and everyone else has played up front apart from me.

“I spoke the manager around November time about what’s happening. He said we have a good squad of striker now which we didn’t have at the start of the season, which is true.

“Pav has done reasonably well, Billy has come in and done well and Hal has pushed himself forwards.

“It’s frustrating because I’m the leading goalscorer, I just want to play.

“If you look at my record I’ve scored one in two when I start games. But I’ve only started two league games in a row this season. How am I supposed to get into consistent form if I’m not having a good run at it?

“I’m a total team player and always have been, but sometimes I have to think about myself and my young family who I have to provide for.”
