READING FC have signed Danny Guthrie on a Bosman free transfer from Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old central midfielder has agreed a three-year deal at the Madejski and completed his medical today (Friday).
The deal will be formally finalised on Sunday, July 1.
Guthrie, a former Liverpool and Manchester United youngster, is Royals second confirmed signing of the season after Garath McCleary, with Pavel Pogrebnyak poised to complete his move to Berkshire soon.
Midfielder Guthrie played almost 100 games during a four-year stint with Newcastle and says it is an 'honour' to join Reading.
"It feels brilliant to have everything agreed, it is a great honour and I am very excited. As soon as I met the manager and Nick Hammond (director of football) my mind was made up, it was a no-brainer," he said.
"Reading Football Club is a fantastic family club, well run and I'm so excited to be part of something special for this club."
Manager Brian McDermott added, "We're delighted Danny is signing for us. He's brings good experience at a good age, he has real ability to pass the ball, he's got energy, he's hungry and is what Reading is all about.
"We're looking to add players who we think will be good for us over a number of years, not just next season, adding to the players who have already done fantastically well for us."

Report commentNot a good signing Reading stated clearly that they were aiming a for top 10 place this player is not a top 10 player he is bottom table cum championship material pardue knows what he is selling the guy has had his chance but never made it I bet pardue is very pleased with the deal as he can use the salary to replace him with a real International player which he is shrewdly pursuing at the moment. The new owner at Reading is a business person he wants value for money and acquiring players that can play in Europe choose carefully Hammond and co or you will pay with your jobs. You wont retain your position in the premier unless you take care with the purse strings I am a real Reading supporter and really want the club to succeed take care you maybe offered 100 players but only 2 or 3 will fit the bill DONT BUY FOR THE SAKE OF BUYING

Report commentLook I read some articles about Guthrie read for your self http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-wire/cabaye-v-guthrie-no-contest-at-nufc/ it is very interesting to know about your players if there is one thing that Pardue likes to do and to be fair the same applies to BM they like to condition their players for the battle if you read the report it says he go missing in the match , the midfield was overrun when coming into the side, his fitness is doubted to last the 90 minutes is this the type of players we want to bring in I have never heard of the present squad at reading not lasting the 90 minutes. He has been with Man Unite and Newcastle and he did not make it. How is he going to command a position in MD side that are all 110% men I reserve my judgement
