THERE were jubilant scenes at the Madejski Stadium tonight as Reading secured promotion to the Premier League.

Royals overcame Nottingham Forest 1-0 with an 81st-minute winner from Mikele Leigertwood to go eight points clear of third-placed West Ham - who drew 1-1 at Bristol City - with only two games to go.

And thousands of fans ran on to the pitch at full time to celebrate Reading's return to the top flight four years after being relegated.

Brian McDermott's men sit top of Championship on 88 points, three clear of Southampton, who beat Peterborough 3-1 on Tuesday evening, and could clinch the title on Saturday when they host Crystal Palace (3pm ko).
