Royals chairman Sir John Madejski said agreement may lead to investment in the club

SIR John Madejski is in talks with a new investor to pump much needed funds into Reading Football Club, it was revealed tonight.

A brief statement from the club just after 6pm confirmed that owner and chairman Sir John has reached preliminary agreement on a deal but he stresses that there is no question of him standing down.

Sir John's statement reads: "I am pleased to announce that I have today entered into an initial agreement with Thames Sports Investment that may lead to an investment in Reading Football Club.

"For the avoidance of doubt, I would like to emphasise that I will continue as Chairman of the club, and the club will continue to operate in the same prudent and business-like manner that it always has.

"No further announcements can be made until a binding agreement has been reached."
