READING FC have won the race to sign Rotherham striker Adam Le Fondre for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old - who scored 24 goals in 49 games last season - was wanted by a number of Championship clubs, including West Ham and Coventry.
However, Royals have signed the former Stockport County player in a deal believed to be worth around £350,000, with further additions depending on performance and potential promotion.
Le Fondre will wear the number nine shirt at Reading and manager Brian McDermott said he is thrilled to have secured his signature.
"I'm delighted to get Alfie on board. His goal record is excellent, he's played a lot of games and after speaking to him I know he has a real belief in himself. For us, we are building the squad back together after the summer and with three signings in a short space of time it's been a good week."
Reading's director of football Nick Hammond added: "We're delighted to have completed this signing, he has a terrific goalscoring record and in terms of style Alfie is different to the other strikers we have at the club.
"He is also a bubbly character and will be good for the dressing room. This is of course a big step up from League Two and the challenge to him now is to make that step."
