READING FC are looking to bolster their front line with the signing of Rotherham striker Adam Le Fondre.

The 24-year-old scored 24 goals in 49 games last season and has already bagged four in five matches this campaign.

His goal-scoring talents have attracted the interest of a number of clubs, including Reading, Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday - who have had a bid turned down recently.

Brian McDermott has been busy in the transfer market this week with the signings of Joseph Mills and Kaspars Gorkss, and Le Fondre would almost certainly signal the end of any spending, if Reading were to secure his services.

Rotherham chief operating officer Paul Douglas confirmed there had been offers but said they would hold on to the striker if a suitable bid wasn't received.

"Our view is that if Le Fondre stays, we have a good chance of winning promotion. So we want him to stay," he said.

Le Fondre, on the other hand, has a year remaining on his current deal with League Two Rotherham and admits he would be open to a move.

"While I have a year left on my current deal, the club absolutely understand my feelings on the matter," he commented.

"I have made clear I want to prove myself at a higher level and I am in no doubt Rotherham will respect my wishes should a suitable bid come in."
