READING boss Brian McDermott has confirmed the club rejected a bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers for captain Matt Mills.
The offer was believed to have been in the region of £3 million, well below Royals' valuation.
But McDermott expects the Midlands' club, who boast former Royals Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt in their ranks, could return with an increased offer.
Speaking exclusively to the Chronicle, McDermott said: "We've had an offer from Wolves for Matt Mills which we turned down.
"It was way off our valuation and that was that. I don't know if they will come back for more - they may do - but I don't want to encourage clubs to bid for our players either.
"That's not part of my agenda. I want to keep our squad together, and add to it if possible."
