FORMER taxi driver and new Reading signing Brett Williams believes he is living proof that miracles can happen in football.

Only two weeks ago the 23-year-old striker was playing for non-league Eastleigh as a semi-pro while working for an airport taxi firm.

But on Tuesday his dream came true when he jacked in his job to sign an 18-month professional contract with the Royals.

Reading paid around £50,000 for his service and Williams still has to pinch himself after what has happened.

Speaking exclusively to the Chronicle, he explained: "The rumours started after our Havant & Waterlooville game when I was told a couple of clubs were interested in me. Then Reading watched me play against Lewis, we won 4-1 and I got two goals.

"The next thing I was invited to train with Reading on the Monday then I found out I was in the staring line-up for the reserve game against Colchester. I scored the first goal and after the game Brian McDermott said he wanted to sign me. I couldn't believe it and driving home was a bit weird. It took a few days to sort out but it's amazing."
