THE Reading Football League got under way on Wednesday with the full programme of fixtures across the four divisions taking place on Saturday.
In the John Dell Senior Division, champions Reading YMCA face an early test from Highmoor Ibis on Saturday, who were their main rivals for last season’s title. YM then face a revamped Frilsham & Yattendon side on Wednesday evening.
Sandhurst Devels have strengthened their squad in a bid to win the title and face newly-promoted Unity on Saturday. Meanwhile fellow newboys Wokingham & Emmbrook Res take on Westwood United.
Marlow United, formerly Marlow Utd Res, have a Premier Division tie against West Reading on Saturday at their new Bisham Abbey training ground followed by a visit from Berks County Sports in midweek.
Last year’s runaway Division One champions South Reading begin life a division above against Park United and Woodley Town Res before a midweek trip to West Reading. Meanwhile Cookham Dean Res have withdrawn from the league. Reading YMCA Rapids, Wrightchoice CSA and Wokingham & Emmbrook A were promoted to Division One last season while AFC Corinthians dropped down from the Premier Division.
The Rapids face Corinthians in their first game and will be looking for their fourth promotion in a row this season.
Division Four sees a whole host of changes with three new teams and five new clubs. The new teams include The Hop Leaf Res, Winnersh Rangers Res and Wokingham & Emmbrook Vets.
Bracknell Cavaliers, Finchampstead A, Pinewood, Woodley Hammers and Eldon Celtic are also newcomers.
