Woodley manager Cyril Fairchild happy with his side's haul of seven points from nine.

WOODLEY Town’s first local derby of the season ended in a 1-1 stalemate against Henley Town on Saturday.

Woodley were disappointed to loose their 100 per cent record but remain unbeaten in Division One East after three games.

The visitors had plenty of chances to take maximum points but Henley cancelled out a first-half Tom Williams goal to score the equaliser shortly after the break.

A feisty opening encounter between the neighbouring sides resulted in early bookings for a handful of players.

Woodley had the better of the opening exchanges and had a penalty claim for handball turned down in the very first minute.

Henley weathered the early pressure and created chances of their own with Tom Archbold’s shot cannoning off the post.

Williams put Woodley ahead from close range just before half-time but Alex Allen slotted home the equaliser on 68 minutes.

Dan Jewell was denied another penalty as Woodley were forced to settle for the draw.

Cyril Fairchild said: “I wanted seven points from the first three games so I’m pretty happy. But when you look at the performance we should have come away with nine out of nine.

“We should have been four or five nil up in the first half. I’m a bit disappointed but we created a lot of chances, which is important.”

Woodley play another derby against Finchampstead on Saturday for their first home game of the season and will be hoping to beat them for the first time since they entered the division.
