THE Reading Football league kicks off in earnest next Wednesday with the top two divisions playing out a full programme.

Former President John Dell is being honoured this season after the league decided to rename it the John Dell Senior Division in his memory.

General Secretary Mark Rozzier said: “The current committee felt it would be a fitting tribute to a man who had dedicated so much of his life to local football, and had been instrumental in making the Reading Football League what it is today.”

This season promises to be another highly competitive one in the Senior Division as champions Reading YMCA look to retain their trophy under fierce competition from a host of clubs.

An improving Woodcote Stoke Row will feel that they can mount a serious challenge, as will Sandhurst, whilst Highmoor Ibis and Cookham Dean can never be discounted. New boys Unity and Wokingham and Emmbrook Reserves also enter the division on the back of successful seasons and will be hoping to cause an upset or two.

Fixtures (Wednesday, September 1)

JOHN DELL SENIOR DIVISION:

Cookham Dean v Sandhurst Devels; Highmoor Ibis v Frilsham & Yattendon; Reading YMCA v Theale; Taplow United v Unity; Wokingham & Emmbrook Res v Mortimer; Woodcote SR v Westwood Utd

PREMIER DIVISION:

Ashridge Park v Woodley Town Res; Berks County Sports v West Reading; Newtown Henley v Marlow Utd; South Reading v Park United; Westwood United Res v Highmoor Ibis Res
