Davies delivers for Woodley but Reading Town lose at home

CARL Davies fired home a superb second half treble as Woodley Town recorded their fifth straight win with an impressive comeback 4-1 victory at Chalfont Wasps last Saturday.

The win saw Town climb into third spot in the Hellenic Division One (East) table and extended their remarkable unbeaten away record which stretches all the way back to August.

However, Woodley were pushed all the way by an in-form Wasps side who went into the game on the back of their own unbeaten five game run and struck first when Fred Tripp headed them into a 23rd minute lead.

Woodley, with Dan Jewell producing one of his best displays of the season, managed to tie things up before the break when Chris Hatton sidefooted home following a flowing move involving Nick Edwards, Davies and Luke Williams, who supplied the first of his three assists.

The rest of the first period was pretty even, although Woodley were unlucky to have a goal disallowed on the stroke of half-time for a foul on Chalfont keeper Gary White.

Deadly Davies then took charge after the break and headed Woodley into a 2-1 lead on 69 minutes after taking advantage of some slack marking from Williams' corner.

The tackles started to fly in after that, but Williams and Davies combined again to wrap the game up four minutes from time when the Woodley hitman headed home another Williams free-kick.

Davies then completed his hat-trick and put the seal on the win in stoppage time as he converted a cross from substitute Richard Thomas at the far post for his eighth goal in four matches.

Davies' hat-trick took his tally for the season to 13 and he will be confident of adding to that total this Saturday as Woodley entertain rock bottom Penn & Tylers Green at East Park Farm.

Woodley Town: Garnes, Baxter, Nunn, Edwards, Nightingale, T Williams (Hiscock), Jewell, Hatton (Thomas, Fairchild (Peters), Davies, L Williams. Subs (not used): Varndell, Cripps.

READING Town slumped to their first home defeat of the season as they went down 1-0 against 10-man Ardley United last weekend.

Town remain well clear at the top of the Premier Division but the scrappy defeat will hopefully serve as a wake-up call for their title ambitions.

Second-placed Almondsbury, who won 2-1 at Oxford City Nomads last weekend, have now closed the gap at the top to seven points but have three games in hand on Town.

Reading dominated possession last Saturday but were unable to find a way through a packed Ardley defence, even when the visitors were reduced to 10 men after Danny Bone was dismissed for a second bookable offence midway through the second half.

Aaron Parfitt went closest for the hosts with a shot which clipped the outside of the post but, as they piled forward in search of a breakthrough, Reading were caught out by a sucker punch.

Troy Bryan led the counterattack with 13 minutes remaining which ended with Neil Lazarus firing home the winner off the inside of a post.

The defeat was Reading's first at Scours Lane since March 2009 and they will be desperate to bounce back at home to Highworth Town this Saturday.

Reading Town: Grace, Williamson, Hancock, Buck, Hughes, Bratt, Rees, Riccio, Parfitt, Hamilton, Clark. Subs (used): Mills, Brooks, Harvey.
