Frils and spills for YM as new boys secure the spoils

TWO first half goals proved enough for Frilsham & Yattendon to send Reading YMCA to their second defeat of the Senior Division season.

A combination of cup action and wet weather meant that the clash was the first league game in more than a month for both clubs.

However, YM came into the game on the back of three straight wins looking to take advantage of the inactivity of leading pair Highmoor/Ibis and Sandhurst Devels.

Frilsham on the other hand had suffered a pair of cup exits since their last league game - the 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture against YM at the end of October.

Despite that it was the hosts who took the lead when Jamie Green capitalised on some hesitant defending to net the opener on 25 minutes.

And they got the vital second on the stroke of half-time as Stephen Pope scrambled the ball home from close range following a corner.

That proved to be the end of the scoring as a fine defensive display earned Frilsham their second clean sheet of the season, to move them safely into mid-table.

YM, meanwhile, drew their first blank since September to stay four points behind leaders Highmoor with a game in hand.
