AFTER a rare Saturday off, Reading Town got straight back to winning ways on Tuesday night with a 4-2 defeat of Carterton.

Town were due to host Hellenic Premier Division strugglers Bicester Town at Scours Lane on Saturday, but the game was postponed with the visitors in turmoil following the departure of their manager Paul Berry.

However, normal service was resumed for the league leaders on Tuesday night as they eased past another struggling Oxfordshire outfit.

Two goals in the opening 17 minutes from James Clark put Town in control, before Scott Rees made it three on 37 minutes.

Ross Herridge got the fourth for Town midway through the second half, while all Carterton could muster in response were a pair of penalties from Jamie Butt at the end of each half.

Woodley Town

WOODLEY TOWN continued their march up the Division One (East) table after over-turning an early two-goal deficit to beat Farnborough Reserves 3-2 on Saturday, despite being down to 10 men for much of the second half.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock after just eight minutes when a wayward pass from Nick Edwards was picked up by Boro midfielder Daniel Bowden. He showed good composure to find Louis Wilson on the edge of the box and he drove the ball into the far corner.

It was two just seven minutes later when Jourian Coleman hit a testing cross which flummoxed the Town defence, much to the delight of Bowden who calmly steered the ball home.

Towards the end of the first half Woodley did manage to pull a goal back, Jamie Fairchild scoring from a rebound four minutes before the break after keeper Ashley Scott failed to smother his first attempt.

Immediately after half-time Boro had an own goal disallowed, before Woodley levelled the scores in the 49th minute. A mazy run and pinpoint cross from Tom Williams allowed Fairchild to volley home for his second of the match.

Woodley's change of formation at half-time saw them in the ascendency and they now pressed for a winner. And they got it on 55 minutes when Woodley produced some delightful attacking play to take the lead, a parried shot from Edwards falling to Luke Williams for an easy finish.

With half an hour left Boro were showing signs of getting back into the game and were boosted when Woodley substitute Chris Waring was sent off after just two minutes on the pitch.

Town were now firmly on the back foot and it took sturdy defending from the home team to hold onto the three points, Richard Thomas making a superb goalline clearance and Oneal Garnes superbly tipping a goalbound effort over the bar.

In-form Woodley will be now be looking to make it three wins on the bounce this weekend at home to Milton United.
