ONE of Reading’s biggest football clubs, Caversham AFC, now boasts 18 newly-qualified FA Level 1 coaches.

The club, based at Clayfield Copse, hosted its own course to help its new coaches gain the Football Association qualification, which allows them to work with boys and girls of all ages, from Under 5s all the way through to the adult side.

The course covered a wide variety of elements, including arrival activities, skill development and game practice.

It provides the coaches with lots of activities they will use to further improve the quality of training they receive.

Coaches also learnt and passed modules covering safeguarding for children and first aid.

Ben Chambers, who organised the training, said: “The training was very hard despite what my wife thinks.

“It taught us lots of things we can put into practice with the children.

“The support from the FA was excellent and we have already built some new ideas into our sessions.”

The club is looking for more players, with more information available at www.pitchero.com/clubs/cavershamafc One of the main areas Caversham AFC is expanding is girls football.

It is currently running free taster training sessions for girls in reception to Year Three at Highdown on Sunday mornings.
