THATCHAM Town can expect a host of managers to be knocking on their door following Sunday's impressive FA Vase triumph, writes Dave Wright.

The Kingfishers produced an eye-catching performance under pressure-cooking conditions at a sun-baked Wembley and now face the prospect of seeing some of their stars being wanted by other clubs.

Newly promoted to Southern League West, the Hellenic League champions have become an even more attractive club and manager Danny Robinson should have few problems in bringing in new players as he looks to strengthen his squad for next season.

However, he may have a hard job in retaining all of his Wembley heroes if clubs with bigger budgets come calling.

And the main attraction will almost certainly be towering centre-back Baboucarr Jarra, who produced an outstanding display.

Playing in a televised final tie on a big stage like Wembley, it would be easy for a player to freeze, but Jarra remained cool and confident throughout and was the best player on view.

After collecting his award, he commented: "Just to play at Wembley is one thing, but to be the man of the match and being on the winning side is completely different.

"It's a great feeling, easily the best moment of my career."

He underlined his ambition when saying: "Hopefully, I can try to go on to do better things, but at the moment I have no idea about my future."

Robinson, who has just signed a new two-year contract, will do everything possible to keep one of his prized assets at Waterside Park.

While penalty ace Shane Cooper-Clark was the goal hero, the fact Thatcham emerged victorious was largely due to the outstanding defending of Jarra and Tom Moran.

The game was goalless when Jarra showed his perfect timing and courage by beating Chris Stockton in the air in front of goal after Fred Woodhouse had lobbed keeper Chris Rackley.

The centre-back again rescued his side as Stockton searched for an equaliser, being in the right place to make a block after Dale Mulligan had got behind Rackley.

Talking about those goal-saving incidents, Jarra commented: "My game is all about helping the team any way I can. I am ready to do it on the pitch or in the dressing room."
