HIGHMOOR Ibis must now sweat it out before knowing which Hellenic League division they will be playing in next season, writes Dave Wright.

Their 4-0 home defeat by Windsor on Monday coupled with Lydney's 2-1 win at Oxford City Nomads means they will finish in the relegation zone.

However, it will not be known until the summer whether all of the bottom four teams will go down from the Premier Division.

Plans are afoot for changes to the non-league pyramid which will see clubs being moved up or down, even being switched to other leagues.

Highmoor had shown improved form in recent weeks to keep alive their slim survival hopes, but they found Windsor a shade too good for them.

They were trailing from the 15th minute when poor defending enabled Brad Pearce to head home Keaton August's corner.

Mitch Parker and Anthony White both went close to equalising before their side fell further in arrears to an overhead kick from veteran Barry Hayles after 37 minutes.

Parker was unable to continue in the second half due to a toe injury, but that did not stop Highmoor from upping their tempo although they struggled to create clear-cut chances.

Hayles showed them the way to goal by scoring his second and Windsor's third in the 89th minute with substitute Jack Simmons adding a fourth in stoppage time, leaving a scoreline that was harsh on Highmoor.

Between those goals, the hosts had Kai Alleyne sent off after being shown his second yellow card of the game.

Ibis complete their fixtures with a visit to Abingdon United on Saturday when three points would see them finish on 32 points, leaving them ahead of Woodley, Fairford and Burnham.

AFC Aldermaston have avoided finishing in the bottom two in the Division One East standings after taking four points from their last two games.

The Atom men drew 1-1 with Wallingford Town last Saturday after Kai Parton-Edey's early goal had been cancelled out by a late equaliser, and then on Monday they defeated Thame Rangers 2-0 courtesy of first-half goals from Callum Eaton and Luke Blakebrough.

They can climb even higher up the table by taking points from their remaining away games against title-chasing Virginia Water tonight (Thursday, 7.45pm) and Wokingham & Emmbrook on Saturday (3pm).

  • Becky Anderson, Ellie Reed, Ayala Truelove and Bec Walker scored for Newbury Ladies as they beat Frampton Rangers 4-3 on Sunday.
