WESTWOOD United bounced back from a 9-0 hammering from title favourites Reading YMCA to beat Berks County 1-0 in the Premier Division, writes Richard Ashton.

It was a day to forget for United against the Young Men, as Ryan Adams and Matt Drake helped themselves to braces and Dan Donegan, Craig Fitzpatrick, Jamie Piercy, Ashley Searle and Kaser Chowdhary completed the result, The victory leaves YM 12 points adrift of leaders Woodcote Stoke Row – who received three points when Woodley United Royals could not raise a team – but with seven games in hand.

Royals had previously been beaten 2-1 by fourth-placed Wright & Unity Sports. Olabiyi Oshunlaja netted for Woodley, with Tyrese Corbin-Chandler and Tonye Ngoye replying for the visitors, who then surprisingly lost 2-0 to lowly Highmoor Ibis United.

Carl Jenner scored twice and Ashley Beckett also hit the target as Newbury edged out Cookham Dean 3-2.

Jordan Trumpet, Sam Martin and Andrew Nicol all grabbed doubles as Marlow United hammered rock bottom Taplow United 8-0, Wes Sutherland and replacement Delroy Howell getting the others.

Berks County came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory at Mortimer on Monday night.

The Swords trailed 1-0 at the interval, but a second-half brace from Connor Banks gave the visitors a valuable three points.

Adam Taylor and Ryan Farmer struck for new Division One table-toppers Burghfield FC as, aided by an own goal, they eased past Hurst 3-0.

Richings Park are up to second after a Ryan Adams brace and a goal from Tomas Kenton helped them past Reading YMCA Rapids 3-0, the young men having previously lost 2-0 to Hurst as a Daniel Townson double did the damage.

Rapids also lost 4-2 at home to Westwood United Reserves to round off a bad week.

Third-placed FC Imaan Lions saw their title hopes suffer a major blow as they went down 2-1 to Frilsham & Yattendon. Aqeel Butt scored for Lions, with Owen Guest and Sam Trumper replying for the visitors.

Goals from Austin Chadwick and Ian Henry helped Cookham Dean Reserves past Finchampstead 2-1, Thomas Symss on target for Finches, and they were also then beaten 2-0 at Rotherfield United.

Eldon Celtic triumphed 2-0 at Maidenhead Town.

Sebastian Urbanski grabbed a consolation for White Eagles, but they were thumped 5-1 by FC Woodley as the visitors moved a step nearer to the Division Two crown.

Eagles had more success against Hurst Reserves, as goals from Mateusz Kciuk, Lukasz Hryniewicz and Jacek Bojda gave them a 3-1 victory. Substitute David Worley netted late on for Hurst.

FC Woodley, meanwhile, are six points clear of South Reading, who bounced back from a 4-1 defeat at Woodcote Stoke Row Reserves to edge past Marlow United Reserves 1-0.

Mike Higley, Tom Brownlow, James Worsfold and Michael Butcher got the goals for WSR, with Jamie Broadley on target for South Reading.

Sam Evans came off the bench to fire Maidenhead Town Reserves top of Division Three with a 3-1 victory at home to Wargrave.

Division Four champions Twyford & Ruscombe made it 17 wins from 18 games as they edged past second-bottom Harchester Hawks Development 2-1, Richard White and Jose Ribiero with the goals.

A Craig Roberts brace and a Harry Bennett strike earned second-placed Taplow United A a 3-2 victory away at Woodley United B.

Reading YMCA sealed their first silverware of the season with a 6-3 victory in the Maidenhead Norfolkians Senior Cup against Langley on Tuesday.

They retained the trophy on the back of an Adams hat-trick and goals from Donegan, Chowdhary and Drake.

A Joseph Newman double and Christian Hayward’s brace secured champions Cookham Dean return to defend their Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup title following a 3-0 win against Berks County.

In the Intermediate Cup, Braybooke won a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at Goring United to reach the final.

James Gregory scored twice for Braybrooke, with their other goals coming from Nick Lyskov and Dom Schofield.

Sam Fuller bagged a brace for the hosts with George O’Brien also on target in added time, but it was not enough.
