FC BENTONS have reached the Berks & Bucks Sunday Intermediate Cup final this season after a 3-1 win away at Purley.

Goals from Matt Andrews, Sam Windsor and Billy Hart saw the Thames Valley Sunday Football League club to victory in the semi-final.

Bentons manager Russell Windsor told the Observer: “It was a good win in a difficult game and on a heavy and small pitch.

“Reading sides seem to be quite well-organised and Purley were, they were very busy and fit.

“We went ahead but then conceded an own goal straight away to let them back in.

“We had a blatant penalty not given and it was a bit of a struggle until the second half.

“We played better football in the second half. We scored and when Purley came out to have a go we scored again to kill them off , so it was a good result.”

Bentons will play Aylesbury Flooring in the final at Larges Lane, Bracknell on April 8 (3pm).

Windsor said: “It is brilliant to get into the final and this season it’s a bit more local. We’ve been the other side of Milton Keynes for one and Abingdon for another.

“We played Aylesbury two years ago and beat them in the semi finals when we won it.

“They’re a good side and probably improved since then because another Aylesbury-based club has folded.

“Anyone that gets into a final has got to be a decent side so we know it’s not going to be an easy game.

“Hopefully if the boys perform to their abilities and standards then we will be alright because you will have to be a very good side to beat us at the moment.

“It would be great to win it because it would be our third time, and for the Slough area it would be some achievement.”
