WOODLEY United are facing a gut-busting schedule of playing six games in the space of 12 days.

And all but one of them are at Rivermoor Stadium in Scours Lane, Tilehurst, a ground where numerous games have recently been postponed due to the pitch being either frozen or waterlogged.

Woodley have had to re-arrange a huge number of games with their problems not being helped by the fact the Hellenic League, unlike a number of other leagues, are not planning to extend their season into May.

There is extra pressure on United as they are fighting for survival in the Premier Division.

With eight league games remaining, they are currently third from bottom with the fear that four sides could be relegated.

This Saturday, they make the long journey to Gloucestershire to face Longlevens (3pm ko), their last away league fixture of the season.

Then on Monday evening they are due to host Windsor at Rivermoor, but this could change to a Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Supplementary Cup second-round tie against Brackley Town Saints that was postponed last Monday.

Next Wednesday, United play Chesham United in the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup, having been reinstated into the competition due to Thatcham fielding an ineligible player in their 2-0 quarter-final win.

Woodley have the return fixture with Longlevens on Saturday week, followed by a visit from Royal Wootton Bassett on Easter Monday.

The following Thursday, April 5, they are due to receive a visit from Thames Valley Police in the Reading Invitation Senior Cup.

So Woodley are sure to see their resources stretched to the very limit from here on.

Highmoor Ibis

LIKE Woodley, Highmoor Ibis also have a backlog of games to fit in at Rivermoor and they, too, are facing relegation with only Burnham below them in the table.

This Saturday, they are home to Tuffley Rovers and next Tuesday evening make the long journey to Gloucestershire to face Lydney Town.

The return of the snow resulted in another blank weekend for the Reading Sunday League.

But three Senior Division teams did benefit by being awarded points for scratched fixtures, all at the expense of second-bottom Richfield Rovers, whose season is now completed.

The beneficiaries were table-topping Reading Irish, Kidmore End/The Mod (twice) and Woodley Wanderers.

Reading Irish are due to face their unbeaten title rivals, Emmer Green, in a semi-final of the Tilehurst Charity Cup at South Reading Leisure Centre this Sunday (10.30am ko).
