WOODLEY United Ladies exited the Southern Region League Cup after a 4-0 defeat at Chesham United in the semi final on Sunday.

The match was goalless at the break but Chesham showed their class by scoring four times without reply in the second half.

Premier Division leaders Chesham, who boast a 100% record, are now favourites to seal a league and cup double.

Woodley fustrated their hosts in the opening 45 minutes after seeing Chesham’s Kat Bowers rattled the crossbar and Nicole Haines make a number of vital saves to deny the league’s leading scorer, Gemma Fraser.

But Woodley had chances of their own with Rosie-Page Smith testing Lucia Masella.

However, their resistance was broken four minutes into the second half when Alice Cooke headed into her net.

Woodley almost equalised when Louise Burgess went clean through, only for Masella to push her shot behind for a corner.

But Chesham doubled their lead soon after through Gemma Darvill.
Fraser almost pulled one back when Fraser’s goal was disallowed for offside in the 87th minute.

And to add to their frustration, Chesham scored twice more in the closing moments through Sarah Harrison and Lidia Niedertubbesing-Lopez.

Despite the defeat, Woodley can take plenty of positives from their cup run and for pushing high-division Chesham all the way in a lively semi final.

Woodley: N.Haines, Evans, Wilkins, Ward (Edwards), Surtees, Cooke, Lowes, Burgess, Page-Smith, Sawyer, M.Haines. Sub not used: Lowther.

Barton Rovers Ladies

BARTON Rovers Ladies returned from a month’s break to secure a 3-1 home victory against Wycombe Wanderers Ladies in the Southern Region Women’s League Jubilee Cup.

Barton fell behind in the match but equalised when Rachel Allwright forced the Wycombe keeper into a mistake before slotting home.

The hosts then went in front when Amie Benton fired home from the edge of the box from a Noella Rodricks assist.

And they completed the comeback when Allwright netted her second of the game with another fine strike.
