HIGHMOOR Ibis Reserves won the Reading Invitation Junior Cup after they beat Mortimer Reserves 3-1 on penalties following a 3-3 draw after extra time.

Paul Taplin gave Mortimer the lead on the half hour, but their opponents levelled two minutes before the break courtesy of a penalty awarded after a controversial handball.

Mortimer had the better of the second half, but fell behind against the run of play on 78 minutes, only for Craig Jarvis to send the game to extra time with a stoppage-time equaliser.

Steven Campbell netted for Mortimer four minutes into extra time, but after the game went to penalties, it was Highmoor Ibis who held their nerve to seal a 3-1 spot-kick victory.

South Reading won the Diamond Cup with a 5-1 victory against Berks County Rovers.

Jordan Sawyer scored a memorable hat-trick, with the other goals coming from Liam Goddard and Craig Choules.

The BTC Senior Cup final between Reading YMCA and Cookham Dean takes place at Madejski Stadium on Saturday (2pm).
