WOODLEY United moved nine points clear of third-placed Headington Amateurs as they recorded back-to-back wins in Division One East.

Michael Herbert’s side cruised past rock bottom Wantage Town Reserves with a 5-0 victory on Saturday, before earning a hard-fought 1-0 home win against Finchampstead in their Berkshire derby at Rivermoor on Tuesday night.

In their final away game of the season at Wantage, Woodley dominated the opening exchanges and Charlie Oakley and Matt Jones forced early saves from Aaron Timbrell.

It was the in-form Oakley who opened the scoring on 13 minutes, collecting a Josh Drew pass and slotting home into the right corner from the left side of the box.

Woodley doubled their lead when Danny Horscroft fired home after more good play from the impressive Teddy Thomas.

Just before the half hour mark saw the away side make it 3-0 when Oakley found the left corner from another Thomas assist.

Wantage enjoyed a spell of pressure at the end of the first half, but they fell even further behind when Oakley completed his hat-trick – his second in three games – after controlling a fine ball from Jones.

Alex Reed was forced to pull off a good save in the United goal before substitute Greg Beckett made an immediate impact, scoring within moments of coming on in the 74th minute to make it 5-0.

He then had a penalty saved, but that was merely a blip in another fine Woodley performance.

United backed up that dominant display with victory at home to Finchampstead three days later, substitute Josh Drew scoring a 65th-minute penalty to seal the three points.

Woodley United host lowly Holyport on Saturday (3pm), before welcoming Chinnor to Rivermoor on Monday night (7.45pm).

  • HARRY Grant and Joe Grant got on the scoresheet for Highmoor Ibis, but they were beaten 3-2 at Longlevens in their Premier Division clash on Saturday.

Marcus Richardson’s men host Highworth Town next Wednesday (7.45pm).

  • FIFTH-PLACED AFC Aldermaston return to Division One East action this coming Saturday when they host Chalfont Wasps.

They then visit Headington Amateurs on Tuesday (6.30pm).
