BINFIELD FC manager Roger Herridge is hoping leading scorer Liam Ferdinand will be fit for their game against Ardley United at Hill Farm Lane on Saturday (3pm ko), writes Dave Wright.

The 23-goal marksman has missed the last two matches with a slight hamstring injury, Despite his absence, the Moles defeated Ascot United 1-0 at home before winning 2-1 at Brackley Town Saints on Saturday.

Herridge said: “We targeted six points from these two games, so we ‘re delighted to have got them, especially as we were forced to play depleted sides, particularly at Brackley.”

With Ferdinand’s replacement Matt Jones being injured against Ascot, Herridge found himself short of forwards last weekend.

But centre-back Lewis Leonetti accepted the manager’s request to join youngster Luke Hayden up front even though he was less than 100 per cent fit, and he scored with a superb effort from 25 yards for the Moles’s second goal in the first half, 15 minutes after Michael Walton had opened their account.

Saints pulled a goal back on the hour mark, but Binfield held on for a deserved win that leaves them seventh in the table.

Spectators going to the game on Saturday will see changes at the ground, as in the past week, the covered stand behind the goal has been demolished.

This is to clear the way for the contractors when they move in next week to build the new changing-room block. Other improvements include laying a hard surface in the car park.

The club has acquired a six-figure sum for the cost of the work from the Football Foundation, Binfield Parish Council and Bracknell Forest Council.
