JAMIE Piercy scored twice for the second game in a row to earn Highmoor Ibis a 2-1 win at Ascot in the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Cup.

His winner came late in the game – just after the Yellamen had equalised – but it was hotly disputed by the home side as they claimed the ball had gone out of play in the build-up to the goal.

Highmoor, who had lost 3-2 at Burnham last week with Piercy again netting both their goals, welcomed back Danny Lingwood to their defence, while player-manager Marcus Richardson made a rare starting appearance in attack.

Lingwood nearly marked his return from holiday with a goal, just failing to turn home a glancing header from Harrison Bayley.

Soon afterwards, Richardson sent a header straight at keeper Carl Dennison, while other chances also fell Highmoor’s way.

Richardson was involved in the build-up that led to the opening goal after 34 minutes with Piercy finding the net with a cool finish in the bottom right-hand corner.

With the visitors defending well, the one goal looked enough to win the game.

But on 90 minutes they were unfortunate to concede a penalty when Austin Best stumbled and handled the ball, giving Paul Coyne the chance to level the scores from the spot.

However, Highmoor immediately returned to the attack and Piercy found the net again with a shot into the bottom right-hand corner.

Ascot claimed the ball had gone out of play – by “three feet” – and their furious protests led to assistant manager Paul McGrotty being shown the red card.

It was the third time Highmoor had beaten Ascot this season, following their wins in the league and Berks & Bucks Trophy and the teams will meet again at Rivermoor Stadium in the league on Tuesday, November 15.

This Saturday the Moor go to Royal Wootton Bassett and next Tuesday evening visit Flackwell Heath in the quarter-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy.
