Head development coach, Bobby Malik, will provide free coaching, while team managers and senior players will be in attendance.

There will be an opportunity to order new kit and equipment for the season.

As some Reading teams will be playing in the Berkshire Youth Development League, it is a requirement that all players have to be registered, so newcomers must take long proof of their date of birth either through their birth certificate or passport,

Hot food, including Asian, will be available to purchase during the evening, either to eat in or take home.

Reading CC’s hopes of playing in the La Manga T20 Classic last weekend were grounded by a 48-hour strike by French air-traffic controllers.

Player-coach Malik said: “It was very disappointing as we had been looking forward to playing In La Manga for several months.”

The team did think about driving to the Spanish resort, but the very long journey would probably have prevented them arriving in time for the first day, when they had two matches in the tournament.

Last Man Stands

CRICKET clubs and individuals still have time to sign up for the exciting new cricket experience of Last Man Stands.

The eight-a-side game is designed to encourage people to either take up or return to the game, and consists of 20 five-ball overs.

Each game lasts about two hours and a side is not bowled out until all eight batsmen have been dismissed.

Another innovation is that if a batsman hits the last ball of the innings for a maximum, it counts as 12.

Leagues in Reading and Slough will be starting next month and players can sign up either as a club or as an individual.

The winners of those competitions will qualify to compete in the UK Finals in September.

Due to the high volume of individual registrations organisers will be running four ringers teams – the Slough Knight Riders, Slough Superchargers, Deshi Daredevils and Reading Renegades.

To sign up to one of those squads costs £20 but players are given a personalised shirt and the cost also covers insurance.
