Bruce Martin won the toss for Falkland at Dinton and elected to bowl.

Ian Slatcher (2-32) struck twice in quick succession early on to reduce Dinton to 21-2, but the hosts fought back with Harry Woodward (55) and Ashley Smith (32) putting together an 89-run partnership.

Ben Piper (2-35) then took the wicket of Woodward and Smith in quick succession, but Jack Aston (46*) played superbly to help move Dinton to 217-6 from their 50 overs. Martin led the visitors’ attack with 2-27 from 10 overs.

On a tough wicket, it looked like victory would be hard for Falkland but they were comfortable in their chase and always ahead of the required run rate.

James Ettridge (62) got the visitors off to a solid start and he was ably supported by Piper (34).

Rehan Akram (24*) and Craig Williams (20*) then enjoyed an unbroken 51-run stand for the sixth wicket to guide Falkland to victory on 220-5 with five overs and plenty of wickets to spare.

The visitors were also boosted by 51 extras including 33 wides.

Falkland end their Division Two campaign with a home game against Chesham CC at Enbourne this Saturday (11.30am), knowing they are almost certain to be relegated.

Meanwhile, Newbury CC all but secured their Thames Valley League Division 3a survival after a 47-run win over Eversley 2nds.

Jeremy Hammond won the toss for Eversley and put the visitors in to bat.

It was a slow start for Newbury with the opening three batsmen struggling to make an impact, but the middle order dug them out of a hole and led them to a solid total.

Andrew Douglas (35), Amalka Naimanage (29) and Suryaprakash Sastry (45) all contributed as the visitors recovered to set a target of 229.

The hosts started well in their chase and Thomas Howorth (57) and Shane Green (70) looked to have put Everlsey on course for victory, but Newbury skipper Charlie Anstey had other ideas.

The veteran spinner, who is set to stand down after 19 seasons in charge, had a fantastic day as he took 8-81, ripping through the middle order and tail end to turn the game on its head and ensure Newbury ran out winners.

Newbury finish their season with a home game against Theale & Tilehurst at Northcroft this Saturday (12.30pm).

Thatcham CC kept up their hopes of avoiding the drop from Thames Valley League Division Two after a five-wicket win at home to Aldershot on Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, with opening batsman Jack Bromley (61) posing the biggest threat for Aldershot.

Chris Bird (4-66) was the biggest threat for Thatcham, and helped restrict the visitors to 194-6 off their 52 overs.

Thatcham knew they needed to win to keep their survival hopes alive, and got off to a superb start with opening batsmen Scott Gibson (35) and Simon Rider (59) contributing.

They had already done their part when dismissed leaving Duncan Johnson (34*) to seal the win with five wickets and 10 overs remaining.

Thatcham must now beat fellow relegation candidates Slough 2nds away from home this Saturday (12.30pm), while hoping one of Aldershot, Bagshot or Sonning also fail to win.
