The Reading-based company has agreed to continue backing the popular limited-overs set-up. RMCL treasurer Jeff Wayling spoke of the benfit the sponsorship brings to all players in the league.

“Microsoft’s backing allows the RMCL to offer low cost midweek cricket to players of all ages and abilities in the Reading area,” he stated.

Microsoft also run a team in the league and captain Brian Painting said: “We are dedicated to supporting local activities including the midweek league.”

However, Microsoft’s generosity was not extended to Division 1 strugglers Racal during their recent basement battle at Hurst CC recently.

In a match dominated by the bowlers, Racal restricted Microsoft to 97-8.

Simon Bowman (18) and Bharat Sahani (16) top scored while Roy Hayden took 3-19.

But Microsoft, spearheaded by quick bowler Faisal Yasin along with Nicolas Fuller, promptly dismantled the Racal batting order, dismissing them for 86 in reply to secure an 11-run victory.

Yasin finished with superb bowling figures of 4-22, Fuller snared 4-9 while Tim Vines hit 27 in vain for the losers.
