The hosts won the toss and elected to bat but failed to fire as they came up against an impressive and well-rounded Sonning attack.

Ross McAdam (3-26) maintained his superb form since joining the club with an excellent spell and Australian bowler Louis Ellery also proved difficult to get away during his stint with the ball.

They were well backed up by Zahid Mohammed (3-46 in 20 overs) and Zubair Khan (4-52 in 15.3) as Aldershot were never allowed to settle, and they were eventually bundled out for just 172 with three balls remaining in their innings.

However, the run chase did not prove as easy as the Pound Lane side would have hoped, as regular wickets left the game in the balance.

In the end a sensational and match-winning 66 from Mohammed, aided by useful contributions from Mark Roca (33) and captain Ollie Clayson (28), steered the side to another victory to keep their fine run going.

The win helped Sonning leap out of the relegation zone and up to seventh, five points ahead of Slough 2nds but only five points behind their vanquished opponents who sit in fourth.

Relegation-threatened Bagshot - who are currently in eighth - are the visitors to Pound Lane this Saturday as Sonning aim to continue their climb up the table.

Sonning 2nds continue to struggle in Division 4b and slipped to a 42-run loss at home to promotion-chasing British Airways 2nds.

The visitors chose to bat after winning the toss and amassed a competitive 196 before they were dismissed with three balls of there innings to spare.

Ghulam Abbas was the pick of the Sonning attack as he claimed 4-66 in 17 overs, while Mark Anderson was also on form to record 3-73 during a marathon 25 over effort.

Kevin Smith also picked up a wicket while a good fielding performance was rounded off by two run outs being secured.

Sonning found the going tough with the bat and lacked the one substantial innings which could have secured victory.

Jameel Ahamad top scored with a mere 25 while a number of players made starts without converting - demonstrated by the fact six players were dismissed for scores between 11 and 25.

Sonning were eventually dismissed for 154 in the 45th over which leaves them languising in ninth place in the table.

The winless side sit five points off safety but will have their sights set on a first victory this term when they travel to rock bottom Falkland 3rds - the only other side in the league who have yet to record a success - on Saturday.
