Friends - predominantly made up of players from Marlow CC - skittled the hosts for just 95 in Thursday’s final, before easing to an eight-wicket win.

And Dickenson said the cup triumph provided welcome relief from a tough league campaign which sees Friends bottom of the Reading Midweek League Division One.

He beamed: “It’s great, I’m really pleased. We haven’t had the best season because we’ve been struggling with availability in the league, but we had a decent side on the night and in the rounds before.

“It was our bowlers who did the job - there was a bit in the wicket early - and our openers got a couple through at head height and a few early wickets.”

Kidmore elected to bat first but slipped into dire trouble at 24-3 as Harry Spear (2-25) and Tom Bartlett (1-11) knocked over the top order cheaply.

Gregor Hearn chipped in with 18 for End, but the only partnership of note was a 34 run fifth wicket stand between Alex Crawford (29) and Zac Leonard.

However once Crawford was dismissed, Kidmore slumped from 74-5 to 95 all out, as Dickenson (2-17), Phil Lines (2-31) and Andy Cotton (2-10) showed no mercy towards the tail end.

An outstanding fielding display was highlighted by a magnificent tumbling catch at deep mid wicket by Nick Paskins which accounted for last man Mike Jones.

Kidmore made an early breakthrough when Paskins was dismissed by James Frost for 1, well held at deep square leg by Hearn.

However Bartlett (29) and Ryan Jansen (22*) rebuilt steadily and took their side beyond the half way mark before the former was dismissed by Crawford, spooning a catch to Abid Ul Wahab at short cover.

Kidmore’s hopes of victory could have been increased the very next ball when Jansen struck a drive at James Frost, but the experienced bowler put down the chance.

Following that opportunity there was no way back for the hosts and Rowan Friend - who founded the side in 2007 - batted with trademark fluency despite having only returned from Australia earlier in the week.

Friend appropriately rounded off the victory by hitting a straight four off seamer Jones to draw the scores level, and he and Jansen then scampered a single after a catch was spilled at mid on to ensure Friends were crowned deserving champions with 17 balls to spare of a one-sided contest.
