READING CC's David Barr is not taking anything for granted after Saturday's draw with Aston Rowant left his side clinging onto safety in Home Counties Division Two West, writes Alistair Hendrie.

Rain pulled the clash to a halt with Aston Rowant locked on 112-7, chasing Reading's score of 172-6. The result leaves Reading in a precarious position, teetering 15 points above the drop zone.

Barr knows what is required of his men at home on Saturday (11am) against fellow strugglers Gerrards Cross and said: "We haven't won for a while and have faltered since the middle of the season. We are not safe at all, we need to go out there and win."

In Thames Valley Division 2b, Jeff Sheldon took 7-25 as Kidmore End beat Sonning by six wickets.

Purley-on-Thames are six points clear at the top of Division 4b with one game remaining after they lost to Eversley 2nds by 10 runs.

Purley travel to Theale & Tilehurst on the final day while, in the same division, Hurst's game with Reading 3rds was abandoned.
