READING'S winless run extended to four matches after they lost by three wickets at home to Home Counties Division Two West leaders Burnham.
Reading's total of 204 all out, with good contributions from George Greed (56) and Camillus Alexander (29), looked competitive right up until an eight-wicket stand of more than 40 gave the away side the spoils.
Reading captain David Barr was disappointed with the loss but felt that there were positives to take from the batting performance
"George made a great contribution with his 50 and there were some good scores of 20-odd but we just needed to push on that bit further because 10 to 15 more runs might have been the difference," he said.
The middle-order all made useful contributions but couldn't convert them and Barr cited Camillus Alexander's run-out as a key moment
"It came at a crucial stage when were looking to accelerate the innings and really try and push on but on a spin-friendly pitch I felt we maybe had enough."
Reading's innings started disastrously as they lost both Jamie Hoddle and Curran Gaur for ducks and then saw Tom Fray (26) and Shelvin Gumbs (4) fall with the score at 49.
Yet again it was contributions from the middle and lower order - Alexander (29), Sukhi Kang (21), Luke Beaven (29no) and Barr (16) - that helped push Reading to a respectable total.
Unfortunately for Barr and his team, 204 wasn't enough despite excellent figures for West Indian all-rounder Alexander of 6-50.
Reading's next fixture is an away clash with Farnham Royal on Saturday (11.30am).
