MANUEL Pena Garces saw Reading Rockets make it six wins in a row and the coach believes there is still more to come from his side.

The Rockets came from five points down at half-time to beat Solent Kestrels 101-79 on Sunday.

“Obviously, I’m pleased as it was another fine display,” he said.

“But, although this team is growing in confidence and cohesion, there are many areas still open to improvement.”

Reading conceded the first point from the three-throw line to National Cup finalists Solent, but a 13-0 run put the hosts ahead, forcing Kestrels head coach and ex-Rocket player Matt Guymon to call a time-out.

He inspired his side to make an 11-2 run before Elvisi Dusha, making his Rivermead debut, dished the first of his nine assists to Ali Sbai, who stroked a treble.

Danny Carter’s block saw Rockets open up a 16-10 lead, but back-to-back trebles from Kestrels brought the scores level at 21-21 by the end of the first period.

Solent scored five quick points, only for Reading to reply through Carter and a treble from Academy player Ibu Jassey Demba.

There were then scores at both ends before 17-year-old Fidel Gomez finished off a superb move with a Dusha pull-up jump keeping the scores level at 44-44.

However, a 5-0 Solent finish saw them go to the locker room with heads held high and the lead.

Solent extended their advantage to 55-45, during which Reading captain Carter was called for his third foul.

Having spent the vast majority of the opening two periods on the bench after being called for a pair of early fouls, Rockets inside man Chris Hooper was unleashed and he changed the game.

The American responded with nine personal points from four rebounds, an assist and steal.

A 25-7 quarter finish showed how much Rockets had outplayed a talented Solent outfit.

Carter stroked a pair of trebles and Craig Ponder hit nine points as the game changed dramatically with Reading taking a 70-62 lead into the final stanza.

The home side showed great team commitment to win the period 31-17, much to the delight of their fans, who were delighted to see their team back playing at Rivermead.

Dusha hit 12 points whilst giving an excellent display with two more assists and a pair of steals.

Sbai made a great stop, Hooper took down rebounds at both ends of the court and Ponder finished a fast break.

Spaniard Gomez brought up the 100 point mark with a fine base-line drive to crown a brilliant second-half for Rockets. Carter headed Rockets scoring list with 23 points and seven rebounds.

They look well poised to make a strong challenge for the title. Their next home fixture is on Saturday January 7 when Manchester Magic visit.
