The 20-year-old will make his final appearance of the season against Derby on Saturday after a successful loan spell that’s seen him make 19 appearances for the Royals, scoring one goal.

The lure of working under Steve Clarke attracted Chalobah to Reading and despite being tipped for big things, he insists he’d be happy to return next season.

“I don’t see why not,” he said. “It’s not my place to say, my parent club is Chelsea and I have to report back to them but I’ve had a good time and if they wanted to send me back here then it’s not something I’d turn down.

“This is a really good club, a family club. The boys have made me feel welcome from day one and it’s still the same now.

“I’ve had a really good time here, I’ve heard the fans have said some nice things about me which I obviously appreciate.”
