READING FC Under 23s staged a brilliant comeback to beat Newcastle United 4-2 away from home.

All six goals in the Premier League 2 clash came in the first half on Saturday, with Royals fighting back from 2-0 down to seal an impressive victory.

Scott Marshall’s visitors went behind in the seventh minute when Elias Sorensen struck for the Magpies.

And by the midway point of the first half they were 2-0 down after Danish youth international Sorensen grabbed his second of the game.

But Royals skipper Gabriel Osho led the fightback by reducing the deficit two minutes later with his third goal in two games.

Reading then stunned their hosts with two more goals in quick succession to take a 3-2 lead.

Ben House notched the all-important equaliser in the 32nd minute before Danny Loader fired Marshall’s side in front for the first time in the match just two minutes later.

Royals then opened up a two-goal cushion in first-half injury time thanks to another goal from teenage striker Loader.

The second half failed to live up to the first in terms of goalmouth action as Royals repelled a series of Newcastle attacked to hold on for their second win in a row to climb to fourth in the table.

Royals U23s return to action on Friday, September 14 when they take on Manchester United U23s at Old Trafford (7pm ko).
