The Jack Kingston Satellite Trophy at Calcot Park was won by Alan Mills with 39 stableford points on Saturday.

Mark Osbourne managed second place on countback, with club captain Chris Shackell third on 38 points.

On Sunday, Steve O’Connor (20hcp) won the President’s Plate with an outstanding 42 points.

Phil Lush was one back in second, while Pete Bamford was third with 39 points.

  • ANDY Clark and Angela DeBurca were victorious for the third time in five years in the recent mixed foursomes competition at Wokefield Park.

Their 38 points were sufficient to edge out Archie and Jacqueline Ingram on countback, with Clairemont Gaskin and Karen Clark one point further back.

  • SONNING 3rds enjoyed a fine 4-1 home win against Reading.

Things started badly for the hosts as Graham Burgess and Alan Tubb were trounced 6&5, but that was their only defeat.

Ian Gale and Andy Bebb (1up), Chris Sandy and Michael Harrison (5&3), John Barrett and Russell Gilbey (2&1) and John Allen and Roger Holbrook (7&5) all won to give Sonning a comfortable victory.

There was less success for Sonning Vets, however, as they were thumped 5½-½ at Maidenhead.

Captain John Kick and deputy John Butcher were beaten 3&1, before Chris Mills and Martin Dalton secured a half.

That was as good as it got for the visitors, though, with Ken Smith and Peter Royle (3&1), David Valentine and Graham Swatridge (1dn), Geoff Fielder and Terry Whiter (2&1) and Richard Bianga and Derek Atkins (5&4) all defeated.

  • RICHARD Bower won Division One of the men’s August medal at West Berks, returning a gross 78, nett 69.

Derek Smith was second with gross 81, nett 74, while Jason Kendal shot 79, nett 76, to take third place.

Simon Barrie won Division Two with nett 70, while Tony Atkins returned 72 to take second place with Paul Hargrave third with 74.

Lloyd Ponsford led home Division Three with a nett 69, beating Rob Griffiths who was one shot behind in second place. Darren Galbraith was third with 76.

Simone Diamond won the ladies’ August stableford with 42 points. Pat Davies was a single point behind in second place while Sandy Miller was third with 37.

Lady captain Miller won the ladies’ Saturday stableford with 38 points, Mary Harwood was second with 35, one point ahead of Sian Soanes who took third.

There were six qualifiers in the nine-hole Liddiard stableford.

Phil Clare scored a remarkable 26 points to take the honours on the day with Chris Terrett with 23 points, Nick Bishop 22, Patrick Wilmore 21 and Alan Stark and Darren Boulton with 19 also qualifying.

It was a successful weekend for West Berks’ teams with the men winning a Central Sevens Golf League fixture 5-2 at home to Feldon Valley and the Saturday team earning a highly creditable 3-3 half away to Donnington Valley.

In midweek, the seniors earned a 4-4 draw at Wrag Barn while the ladies had a fine 3½-½ win at home against Sandford Springs.
