SLOUGH Town joint-managers Jon Underwood and Neil Baker will not panic after the Rebels failed to secure a first win in National League South this week.

The Rebels got the new season under way with a 1-1 draw against Hampton & Richmond Borough at Arbour Park on Saturday, before a 1-0 defeat away at Chippenham Town on Tuesday.

Underwood believes Slough were the better side and unfortunate not to win in both matches, but he insists it would be crazy to start panicking so early in the season.

He told the Observer: We’ve been the better side in both games but have just one point to show for it which is disappointing.

“But, on the positive side, we’ve been great defensively and look like we will be hard to break down.

“Scoring goals wasn’t a problem for us last season so that will not deter us. We’ve got goals in us and it’s not a massive problem to fix. I would be more worried if we were leaking them.

“The worst thing we can do as managers is over panic and make changes. We’re only two games in so it’s still very early in the season.

“If we’re four or five games down the line and we’ve still not won that would be a different matter, but we would be crazy to panic now.

“The players were disappointed but also gained a lot of belief from how we played in midweek.

“If we can show that same belief then I’m sure we can get a win on the board soon.

“If we’re having this same conversation at the end of the month then it would be different.”

Slough travel to Gloucester City this Saturday (3pm) who got their first points on the board with a 1-0 win against Oxford City on Tuesday.

Underwood said: “Gloucester are a new team for us but we will do our homework on them the same as before.

“We’ve not seen them first-hand but have other ways to get information.

“We will watch videos and do what we can to learn a bit about them to pass onto the players, but it’s down to how we perform.

“It’s another opportunity to get a first win on the board. So long as we can tun up with the same frame of mindset then I believe we can perform very well.”

The Rebels return to Arbour Park for the visit of Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday (7.45pm).
