SLOUGH Town joint-manager Neil Baker is confident the squad has had a good pre-season in the build up to the National League South.

The Rebels completed their summer preparations with a 1-1 draw against Beaconsfield Town in a behind closed doors match at Arbour Park on Tuesday.

Ben Harris was on target for Slough in the first half, his fourth goal in pre-season and third in as many games.

Baker told the Observer: “Beaconsfield have built a really good side and it was a tough game against them.

“We should have won the match in the last 20-25 minutes with the amount of chances we created but Beaconsfield worked their socks off.

“They were on top in the first 15 minutes and should have had a penalty to be fair.

“It was a good game where we didn’t take our chances in front of goal, but I’m not worried too much as we’ve scored plenty in pre-season.”

The Rebels’ penultimate friendly saw them beat Southern League Premier South club Hartley Wintney 2-0 in a match at Fleet Town on Saturday.

Slough took the lead on 33 minutes as Warren Harris ran at the defence before slipping the ball to Ben Harris, who side-stepped a challenge before firing in with his left foot.

The Rebels doubled their lead five minutes before the break. Ben Harris went to ground under a challenge which Hartley Wintney claimed was outside the box but the referee pointed to the spot.

Manny Williams tucked the resulting spot-kick into the bottom corner, although the keeper got a hand to the ball.

Baker commented: “It was a pretty tough game because the pitch wasn’t in great shape and there was a blustering wind, but we were professional and done a job.

“We pretty much controlled the match and should have added to the two goals that we did score.”

He added: “I don’t worry about fitness too much because you gain that as the season goes on as well, but we’ve had a good pre-season.

“We’ve managed the minutes so a chunk of the lads have had a very similar amount of time on the pitch and not been worked too hard, which can lead to its own problems.”

Slough get the new season under way with a visit to Arbour Park from Hampton & Richmond Borough this Saturday (3pm), before a trip to Chippenham Town next Tuesday (7.45pm).
