MARC McNulty notched his first goal in Reading FC colours with a last-gasp equaliser against Besiktas.

The £1m signing from Coventry City converted a Sone Aluko cross with virtually the last play of last night’s friendly to complete an impressive comeback by Paul Clement’s men.

Royals fell 2-0 behind against their Turkish top-flight opponents in Graz after former Liverpool man Ryan Babel and Oguzhan Ozyakup struck early in the second half.

But Sam Smith, who is being linked with a loan move to Oxford United, pulled one back in the 80th minute before McNulty’s levelled right at the death.

It was a positive display from Reading, though questions remain over George Evans’ future as he was left on the bench ahead of a proposed moved to Sunderland.

Besiktas had the better of the early exchanges in Austria with Jeremain Lens testing Vito Mannone before Liam Moore blocked a Tolgay Arslan piledriver.

Mannone was called into action again to beat away another Babel effort before the Italian stopper made an even better save to deny Cyle Larin a one-on-one chance.

Royals hit back strongly with Yakou Meite going close after linking up with David Meyler before a John Swift effort was blocked in the area.

But the deadlock continued until the break despite half-chances for Besiktas duo Arslan and Dorukhan Tokoz.

Clement sent out the same 11 players for the second half and saw Aluko bring out fine save from Utku Yuvakuran.

However, the deadlock was finally broken on the hour when Babel tucked home a dangerous cross to put Besiktas ahead.

Substitute McNulty almost levelled soon after when he was denied by a brilliant stop from Yuvakuran.

But Royals fell further behind in the 75th minute when a slick build-up ended with Ozyakup firing past Mannone.

However, Clement’s men would not lie down and pulled one back five minutes later, Smith slotting into an empty net after a mix-up in the Besiktas defence.

And McNulty drew Reading level in the final minute by sliding in to direct Aluko’s cross into the net for a 2-2 draw.

Royals end their Austrian tour with a friendly against Rubin Kazan in Ilz this Friday (4pm ko) before returning home the following day.
