JAMES Doyle piloted Sea of Class (30/100) to a two-length victory in the feature £50,000 Listed Johnnie Lewis Memorial British EBF Stakes at Newbury recently.

The William Haggas-trained three-year-old filly came home clear of Mrs Sippy (9/1), who in turn was three-quarters-of-a-length ahead of Princess Yaiza (7/1).

Victory completed a double for Doyle, who had earlier won the Crossland British EBF ‘Confined’ Fillies’ Novice Stakes (Div One) on board favourite Feline Groovy (11/4).

He edged out Mojika (16/1) by a neck, with Daisy Chain (25/1) a further length back in third.

The opening Be Wiser Insurance Novice Stakes was taken by 16/1 shot Confiding, jockey Callum Sheppard getting up by a length from the Brian Meehan-trained Almurr (8/1).

The 20/1 shot Glorious Lover snatched third by a neck from Forseti.

The 9/4 chance Scottish Jig turned over favourite Watheeqa by one-and-a-half lengths in the Crossland British EBF ‘Confined’ Fillies’ Novice Stakes (Div Two), with Existential (9/2) taking the bronze medal slot.

David Egan was on board Keeper’s Choice as the 12/1 shot took the honours in the Comax Handicap.

Michele Strogoff (7/2 fav) was second with Wind in my Sails (6/1) a head behind in third.

In the Be Wiser Insurance Handicap, Oisin Murphy picked up a winner on board Ragstone View (8/1), with Jackpot Royale (5/1) three-quarters-of-a-length back. Agar’s Plough was beaten by the same distance in third.

The 5/2 favourite Pippin gave Adam Kirby a victory in the penultimate race, the Insure Wiser Handicap.

Pippin was a length-and-a-half ahead of Construct, with 10/3 shot Nebuchadnezzar filling the minor positions.

Sarah Bowen steered Windsorlot to victory in the final race, the Wiser Academy Amateur Riders’ Handicap The five-year-old (12/1) finished a neck ahead of Loving Your Work (5/1), with Earthly coming third, a length-and-a-three-quarters further back.
