READING hosted a successful captain’s weekend recently, with more than 180 club members coming out to support Dave Kennedy.

The weekend involved individual 18-hole stableford competitions on both days, with Darran Penny’s 40 points enough to seal victory on Saturday and Ian Roostan’s 38 enough to take Sunday’s event on count-back.

The ladies winner was Wilma Reed with 35 points.

A 36-hole stableford was also held on the Sunday, with Les Pearce victorious having accrued 37 and 36 points for an impressive total of 73.

Colin Tungate was runner-up, a shot back (35 and 37), but one clear of Mike Linehan (31 and 40).

Pearce said he was “pleased to have won the prestigious event for the second time in three years.”

Ladies’ captain Ling Williams held her day on Sunday, with Tracy Craw (4hcp) winning the Mavis Cup with 37 points.

The runner-up was Penny Watson with 36 points, while Jackie MacDonald (37) won the bronze division by a point from Kerry Pardoe (36).
