  • THEALE’s men’s team had never won in previous matches at Wargrave’s Hennerton Golf Club and when their captain could not attend at the last minute it seemed to be a bad omen.

Despite some spirited play from Andy De Burton, he could not match his two Hennerton opponents, Gordon Kingham and Gary Kulpa, to lose the first game.

Paul Scrivener and John Luxton halved the next match with Theale’ Darren Smith and Selvyn Archer, before Kieran Lamb, an ex-Hennerton player, used his course knowledge to win the next game with his partner Kevin Allum.

Theale then went one-up with a win by Andy Loseby and Dave Clark.

Hennerton fought back with a win on the 18th hole by Keith Kerr and Peter Burgess against Dave Coulson and Lee Barrett, but in the last match, Theale’s Jack Mac and Paul Taylor were victorious on the 13th to secure a famous win.

Hennerton now have to wait until September to find out if they can reverse the scores and win their first game ever at Theale.
